Very simple to answer, but this will be long heh.
FIrst off; according to Rise of the Horde, the Draenei appeared on Draenor 200 orc generations ago, there is no actual age given for a generation so we have no idea how long that actually is. The orc's saw something strike in Nagrand, and when they worked up the courage to check, they found the Oshu'gan crystal mountain. We've since learned that Oshu'gan was an escape pod from a Naaru ship, it has never been revealed if they were attacked by the Legion or if they had mechanical failure.
So, there we go, for an incredibly long amount of time, the Draenei are seen by the "primative" orc's as the more powerful race, well the Draenei enjoyed the Orc's seeing much good in them. They had a small amount of trading between the two civilizations but for the most part it was "you don't bother me, I won't bother you".
Fast forward to when Durotar and Doomhammer were 12, they had become friends against all normal Orc clan ideas. They grew up together and were good friends. During one of their jaunts into Terrokar forest, they made a mistake and wandered into ogre territory, said Ogre being happy to see them.... so he could smash them. The kids were saved by a Draenei hunting party, and the two young orc's were shown a Draenei city, can't remember the name at this time, but it wasn't Shattrah.
Forward again a few years, and this time something evil this way comes; a Man'ari Eredar found the Exiles on their new home world and scampered off to tell Kil'jaeden who watched the world for a while before finally deciding to focus on the orc's and make them into his weapon of annihilation.
So, during one of Ner'zhul's trips to Oshu'gan to commune with the ancestors, he is visted by his mate who tells him that Draenei are the enemy and they will destroy the orc. He continues to recieve this message for quite a while and finds out all the shaman are getting it. The orc's, believeing what the ancestor's tell them, they start to prepare for war. They combine the clans into the Horde, gain the alliengence of the Ogres, and start a few skirmishes against the Draenei, partly winning partly losing as the Draenei do not want to use their magic on those they consider allies, but at the same time won't let the orc's kill them. After that, the orc's are given a new magic, Warlock magic, and they slowly but surly lose their connection to their shaman roots.
So, we are now between 9-8 years before the first war, and the battles between the Draenei and the Horde incease in ferocity. At this point, Kil'jaeden, being the royal arse he is, taunts poor Ner'zhul with what he has done and makes Gul'dan the new "leader" of the Horde.
His first move was the worst he could have made; Gul'dan preformed the ritual of blood and bound the Orcish race to the Legion (for all time or so they thought), after this point it became all out genocide. The final number's are supposedly 80% of the Draenei race were wiped out, with the remaining survivors fleeing into Zangarmarsh, Blades Edge and Fields of Farahlon(also known as Netherstorm now).
So, thats the end of the Draenor war and the start of the first war on Azeroth. We know what happened there, but what happened on Draenor was that some of the Draenei, giving in to despair and sadness, were affected by the demon taint on the world and began to devolve into what we call the Broken. Some were able to fight against it, Nobundo and Akama being the most famous, but others sucided, ran head long into death and the like.
So flash forward to the 2nd war, the Portal reopened and at that point, some of the Broken Draenei escaped into Azeroth, and we see them there still. During Beyond the Dark Portal, the Alliance expedition travels to Auchidon and meets up with a unbroken Draenei guarding the ancient gravesite. He helps drive out the Shadow Council and Ner'zhul's forces.
Following the destuction of Draenor, the Draenei race goes deep into hiding, trying there best to survive. So third war rolls around, the madness invades Azeroth and the World Tree is destroyed. After this, The Frozen Throne begans, and then the fun starts. During their visit to Outlands, Kael'thas, Vashj and Illdian meet Akama and the Ashtongue Clan, an entire group of Broken, who help the three Azerothian's defeat the pit lord that had taken over Outlands in the absentence of the Legion and The Orc's.
The next time we hear about the Draenei is during the Blood Elf invasion when they took over Tempest keep, at that point about 70% of the Draenei who survived the Draenor War/Broken corrpution were in the Keep hiding there after the invasion of the Illdari forces, and when the Blood Elves took over the keep, the Exiles headed for the Exodar, which was meant to be living quarters, but could be used as an escape pod, and tried to run. The Elves though, messed with the planeshifter engine, damaging it so the ship only got as far as Azeroth, where it crashed landed in north western Kalimdor.
Again, sorry for the long arse explanation, but I love the history of the Draenei, so I can get kinda....of wordy. And if I missed anything please let me know. As for the Garona question, check here
where I put in the newer stuff about her.
