They sign up to get blown up.
Do me a favor...
sign up.

So what? They may have been unable to communicate except for voice to voice. They may have needed help. Now a family probably has to go hungry for the sake of paranoia. These guys are soldiers. They sign up to get blown up. That's their job, that they freely chose. No threats appear to be found on the boat in question.
No white flag or similar sign of no resistance? I'm fairly certain they would have broadcast a warning message over the ship's loudspeakers.
And I agree with MyTie and Magician - nobody signs up for what you seem to think they do.

Pikey, it was a military run
refueling ship
. The guys on there primarily would've been combat engineers and sailors, not special forces / marines.(##RESPBREAK##)8##DELIM##Squishalot##DELIM##

Cheers for the flaming. In my opinion, if you choose to join any army, you are making a contract that says "I'll kill people. I freely accept that I'll be killed in return. That's war." To murder innocent people is never justifiable.
It isn't quite that simple. Do you expect the sailors on that boat decided that they should break procedure, because they were ready to die, and that's what they signed up for? My training in the military taught me to do everything I could to kill the other person and NOT die myself. In fact, my specialization, weapons, was to find the most efficient way of delivering death while remaining as safe as possible for myself. The US military would be quite ineffective if the soldiers simply allowed the enemy to do as they pleased because it was in their contract to be corpses.

Reading the news today, I found two articles that I enjoyed.
The first is from CNN and points to the travesty of being
PC by the Olympics Committee
, but not having a moment of silence for the dead Israeli competitors from 72, because they don't want to offend anti-Isreal countries.
The second is about North Las Vegas' clever way of
breaking up union pay
to help balance their budget. The unions are, of course, being paid outrageous sums for menial tasks (60 an hour to clean toilets).
Finally, I found this cool
blog...

That article made me laugh. For those who don't want to waste their time reading tripe, it basically says "Politicising the Olympics is bad, unless the politics align with mine".
I got something a bit different from it.
In 1972 a dozen or so Israeli Olympians were taken hostage by a Palastinian group and murdered. This year, the Olympic Committee refused to have a moment of silence for them because they don't want to "politicise" the Olympics. However, the Olympics is already political, and their decision is politically motivated. Their decision was wrong and cowardly. The article explains that this isn't about Israel vs Palestine, but about the dead Olympians, which it is. I'm really really surprised that you arrived at such a simplistic understanding of that article. Perhaps you should reread it?

40 years, people should get over it.

They said acknowledging it would be political, the article asserts not acknowledging it is political, then admits the Olympics has been and is political. If the politics didn't happen to align with that of the author, there would be no article.
How do you feel about it?40 years, people should get over it.40 years is a long time? Since this still holds political overtones in today's world, perhaps it is still relevant?

I feel the message that keeping it sends is positive, and the message it sends by dropping it is overwhelmingly cowardly.

House party busted by cops after gunshots.
Party moves to walmart.
Seriously?
Luke Skywalker thinks that not voting for Obama is "insane" and
Romney isn't human
. Seriously?
Apparently,
Obama is Batman
and Romney is Bane.

I agree the problem though is the people in question here haven't been able to "get over it" in well over 2000 years and arent likely to anytime soon.
