Okay, I get it; some people like the automatically loaded 3D models in the quick facts pane.
Can we have the option to disable those? It's irritating to have a page load and have this little model A: slow down the page, and B: sit there doing distracting idle animations until you scroll down.

wowhead.com##div#npc-model-container
If you're using Adblock Plus in Chrome, this custom filter will disable the character models (of course if you're using Adblock, add Wowhead to the whitelist first).
If you're using other browsers/extensions, the syntax might be different, so you'll have to look it up yourself (it's not hard to find). You'll have to block the div with the "npc-model-container" ID on the "wowhead.com" website. If you're using Tampermonkey/Greasemonkey or any other userscript manager, you can make a simple userscript yourself, you'll just have to find the right div and delete its content.
This gets rid of the 3D models of NPCs. I don't know if Wowhead uses 3D models elsewhere. If you find something that isn't blocked, you'll have to look up that div's ID and make a new filter with that ID.

Can you shoot over browser details to ? We added the 3D models because Blizzard was doing something similar on their in-game dungeon journal and some blogs. We thought it looked cool and raised awareness of our modelviewer among users that don't necessarily click all the buttons. We haven't gotten a ton of complaints about the loading times, but maybe we can make some optimizations.

I have this same issue and it sometimes not only takes forever to load a page with a 3D preview, but also entirely locks up the browser to the point where I have to kill it and restart the browser. This happens when I browse from my iMac using Safari Version 8.0.8 (10600.8.9).

Hello,
Sorry to necro this post, but I see a 30% CPU increase when these models are displayed. I can't play WoW reliably while having a NPC wowhead window opened with one of these models displayed. When I delete the model html node with the inspector, I get back to normal cpu usage. I'm using Google Chrone on a Macbook Air. CPU usage is even worse with Firefox. I'll probably try to find a custom filtering extension for chrome to be able to disable them if they keep getting enabled by default with no proper way to disable them.
Best regards,
David

Maybe this is like a second necro, but I wanted to add that I have the same problems here rather than make a new thread.
I'm using Safari on a macbook pro, and loading npc pages on wowhead has become excruciatingly slow since the 3D models show up on the page. It is super annoying when I just want to look up some info in the comments, but the page gets stuck for 20 seconds every time when I just try to scroll down.
I guess I'll just see if I can block it some way like mentioned above for chrome, but I would just love it if wowhead offered the option to turn these 3D previews off themselves. I imagine there's plenty of people with slow internet and/or old computers that would love an option like that :)

There is a button to see the 3D model of an NPC, having the model load automatically is crashing Firefox after a while, it's annoying

I get it, all this stuff is to increase user experience, but it is not fun when 4 wowhead tabs takes 2GB of RAM.
BTW thanks for that adblock tip. Didn't know you can block particular page elements. Very useful thing indeed

Even having only one Wowhead page open makes the page freeze for several seconds when the model is loading. It's even worse if you need to have more than one tab open at once for whatever reason.
Anyone else using uBlock Origin,
wowhead.com##div#npc-model-container
works perfectly without having to change any syntax whatsoever.
The reason is quite clear - here it is :

Hundreds of requests mainly to various ad scripts which never stops and thousands of js errors will crash any browser. The whole site looks like serious javascript hell :D

Ok.
Click "hide" in the top right corner by the sidebar model to hide it (and future sidebar models).
Click the "View in 3D" button to turn on sidebar models again.
