I'm going to try classic server
Hubby thinks this is really exciting. We actually missed the vanilla experience as we only started playing properly in the Burning Crusade. I didn't raid during BC but hubby said he really enjoyed the immersive raiding experience back then and the real sense of accomplishment from downing a boss. He said a lot of Vanilla players left during BC though because starter gear was better than their hard won elite gear....and believe me things were a lot more difficult back then. I think they need to be true to the original experience and not have all the nice convenient features we have in current wow, or what's the point. Also with the classic server I personally think that any items that are no longer available in game should remain unobtainable or at least character specific on the classic realm rather than account wide - just to preserve the special reverence these items hold for players that have managed to obtain them. There is nothing worse imo than blizzard trivializing the effort a player has put in to obtaining that rare unique mount or hunter pet or armour/weapon by making it easily obtainable in future content, or re-using the model. The cherished memory of obtaining that special item is eroded by it becoming commonplace or trivial.....not to mention the anger and resentment you feel.
What a massive can of worms. Classic WoW was so brilliant because everything was new, all the QoL changes we now take for granted were huge to us back then, and exploring new content was the major buzz. How do they expect to recreate any of those experiences?I'm not excited about this, I honestly think it's fan service gone wrong, but lets see the finished product, if any team can make a silk purse out of a sow's ear, it's Blizzard.
Definitely want to raid in Vanilla, never actually done it. I have a few specs in mind. One thing I really want, and I don't know if it's possible, is if gear you get in Vanilla can count towards your live account's xmog collection. That way you can get gear that isn't easily obtainable, or possible to obtain anymore (Naxx gear for example) but have it not be a super free hand-out at 110/120.
i'm hoping that the classic is just a re-release of Vanilla.original talent/spec trees, crappy old character models, no flying, actually having to pick locks to increase Lockpicking. and so on.i wasn't able to play at the start of WoW, so i missed doing the things that people spent 2005 complaining about and 2015 reminiscing about fondly.
Best news of Blizzcon so far.
About time you covered this! I'm guessing Vanilla server(s) will be out only after the Battle for Azeroth is in full swing, but nevertheless I'm very excited and eager to play both! Hopefully they'll keep it as it was, let people learn some bag space management ;)
I've wanted to see Azeroth as it was before the Cataclysm since I first joined and learned about it just prior to Mists of Pandaria. This will be it. I'm hyped I'll be able to experience what I missed when Azeroth had just gone live.
I'll give it a try but you would wonder how many times can you run Molten Core before it just gets old.
I never got to experience Vanilla directly and so I would love to play on Classic servers. I wonder if they're hiring anyone who ran the legacy servers. They certainly don't know much at all about it yet; I hope they won't decide to scrap it after all!
i think its a nice idea, because i didnt play in vanilla and now i could exerience it like others did
me and my brother were just talking the other week that it’d be sweet to go back. It’ll be interesting to see how they implement.
Hope we could use the same account do play without having to pay another subscription or game time...
I wasn't done with old Old World when Cataclysm was released and I'm looking forward to looking back at what came before again. The world before it was destroyed. The quests I remember so vividly that were removed or completely altered. Ammo pouches! Throwing Knives! All the things that were but are no more...haha.
Vanilla did not have a group finder, of any sort. PVP 'rank' system was voodoo magic, even Blizzard could not definitively tell us how it worked. Most specs were not viable or only viable in PVE or PVP. For example Warriors were the only viable tanks, Shaman were healers in PVE but damage dealers in PVP etc. Brings up questions like will Shaman get 2H Windfury back! (oh the tears, so delicious). No flight. Still, there was a lot to enjoy, I'd probably go with a rogue. My original main was Enhance Shaman for PVP and Resto for raids, but mana management was such a pain in vanilla.
I need to thanks Nostalrius staff for give this idea and help Blizzard to make this happen... thanks!
i think immediate reaction will be "this is awesome" but very quickly the novelty/nostalgic factor will fade away
im glad it is coming back can't wait to play a undead rogue again and gank people naked again.
Finally a chance to test myself old servers that everyone is so hyped and nostalgic about
