Torch of the Damned

+16 maximum damage (the same difference as Lionheart Ex. to Bloodmoon to Stormherald)
+3.4 dps
+18 ap
+0.45% crit
+50 haste rating (right now this is quite awesome for procs-per-minute, like Coopervisor mentioned above, in this case Mace Specialization would greatly benefit from it. This will be nerfed in 2.2 though.)

Stormherald

+1.4% dodge
+16 stamina
+4 sec. stun with 1-2% chance to proc

Stormherald has a little advantage on the defensive side, but imho this can't close the gap in raw power. Torch of the Damned is pretty much on the next tier after Thunder -> Deep Thunder -> Stormherald in my opinion, altough the difference between those three is somewhat larger.
(And of course, Torch of the Damned looks way cooler with the cage-like mace head rotating around the crystal (the souls it has captured ?) in the center ;-) )

I was just doing some Arena skirm's and a certain Gnome warrior named Deegan was one of our opponent's. Being a hunter, I froze him with a freezing trap then my buddy and I killed the priest before the trap was up. Once the trap was up....he charged me, killed me in 4-5 hits with this thing, auto attack..MS, auto, MS Execute...I didn't even know what happened....
The whole time my buddy was hitting him, but he turned around and slaughtered him too. All in all, this weapon is insane, combined with some Merciless gear and tier 6, your good to go.

I could see this being interesting for Ret Paladins. MS warriors, I have no doubt you'll cave in a few faces with this amazing piece of kit.
However, with the Proc Per Minute basis of Seal of Command, it makes me wonder if the haste rating will change the % that a slower weapon has to proc it in the first place. I'll assume as much that it doesn't lower the AP/speed ratio of white hits (like flurry and other haste effects would), but if it increases your white hits AND SoC procs, it'll be a force to be reckoned with.
Sadly, I'm unsure if a 70 Shaman will benefit from it fully with the 3 second cooldown on Windfury. The haste rating will just make it faster so 2 back to back procs won't happen. I'm sure there's a sweet spot where you could make it work out even better, but right now, I don't forsee haste being able to pass that cooldown.
Still, I guess that there's probably some numbers behind the overall white damage against the sustained damage of the windfury procs. That being said, that's not the main reason for a shaman to take a 2 hander. It's the burst damage, which is why the speed matters so much for the 3 second cooldown. No amount of sustained damage will ever match up to the usefulness of a burst windfury from this thing.

That out of the way, I imagine that a tripple windfury crit with this thing will make the ground shake. Whoever gets this, you're very lucky.

After the melee haste nerf, it will grant 50 / 15,8 = ~3,16% haste. Swing time is reduced to 3,8 / 1,0316 = 3,68 seconds.

This is, far away, the best PvE Retadin weapon in the game and it's a drop, no profession required. Of course, getting it to drop is the hardest part.

A note about this weapon and retadins:

This is certainly a good weapon for a ret paladin. Very slow, high top end damage, and good str and crit bonuses. However, I must point out that for ally retadins, the haste bonus is just about useless.

Let's look at the 3 classes that would use this, from an alliance PoV: warrior, paladin, shaman.
Warrior: faster attacks = more rage = more abilities = significant dps gains.
Shaman: faster attacks = more windfury procs = significant dps gains.
Paladin: faster attacks = higher white damage = minor dps gains. In fact, we might not even be able to consider them 'gains', as if the haste stat points were allocated elsewhere (say, in more str or crit) then the paladin would gain significantly more dps from it due to higher SoComm and CS damage.

Just trying to point that out about the haste side of things. In terms of a weapon as a whole, it's very good for alliance ret pallies and if I were one, I'd certainly want it.

All that said, the haste is VERY good for BE retadins. As SoB is a proc on each attack and not a set number of times each minute, more attacks = more SoB dmg = significant dps gains. Furthermore, it actually increases mana regen a little as you take more recoil damage. Go go imbalanced racials! >.<

In any case, if you're in a guild that's good enough to see it drop, I would certainly hope you're knowledgable enough to know all this already.

For arms warriors, would the haste on the weapon necessarily make you hit less than normal due to an increased attack speed or does haste allow you to mitigate the amount of time between swings without sacrificing harder hits?

Well if ur only bringing the speed to 3.627 and the dps would be 136.6 this id much more prefer The Blade of Harbingers https://www.wowhead.com/cata/item=34891 because not only is it 3.5 speed it also has 53 haste and 134.dps which im not sure but with the haste it might be more (Blood elf Paladin)

this is really good item for enhancement shamans who go in 2hands for higher WF hits. WF will proc hell rarely, i would say once a year, but with some haste rating it will be better (i think its not possible to make speed lower than 3 sec(wf CD) without ignoring other stats). very good to pvp, but in pve i still would prefer dual wielding

This is the 2nd best weapon for dwarf/human ret paladins. If you can spare the racial +5 expetise then this weapon is 3rd. My paladin is a dwarf and with the racial +5 to maces im at exactly the right amount for dodge cap. So until I get the t6 belt I will be using this or Apol if it drops.

Since alliance paladins have access to SoB(SotM) haste is very good for us. SoC has been nerfed and SotM(SoB) has been readjusted back to it's old damage come 3.0.3. Haste FTW SotM all the way. Don't let anyone tell you otherwise. With Windfury totem affecting haste now SotM will do insanse damage now. It's possible in all haste gear to get down to 2.6-2.8 speed weapon with Apolyon and Windfury totem+ raid buffs. Uber dps.

PS. I didnt add PvP weapons as this item is found in a PvE instance. I only listed PvE.

People people! Do you not care for us fury spec warriors? This is the perfect ass dual weild weapons crit rate,stam,str,strong, and has haste rating! But it's hella slow... But it doesn't matter you have double haste rating, plus it's not like you don't WW or use any skills.

BC was amazing, especially because of the fact that raid items weren't constantly reskins and recolorings of existing items. this weapon is a prime example. in Wrath, there aren't nearly as many completely unique items. yes, Wrath does have a fair amount of unique items, but if you really think about it the hunter tier 10 (aside from the helm) are simply reskins of tier 7 (for anyone that doesn't know, that set is also a reskin). But yeah even now, as a fully ICC geared retadin i still LOVE to run BT, Hyjal and even Sunwell. Simply put, BC is as good or even better than Wrath (although the stats on items are obviously much lower). But again, this is a personal opinion. Just waiting for Cataclysm now :)

Great mace, definitely comparable to the s3 mace due to its really good stats and speed (and only slightly slower speed). The s3 mace is not a priority upgrade if you are swinging this thing.

Dude. Have you never heard of respecc? Most people raid AND pvp. Most players have a raiding attunements (tier gear) and pvp attunements (gladiator gear). Now stfu, this is a real nice arms warr weapon.

Cleansed Ashbringer is fake, if you read up on the Ashbringer questline Fairbanks says that the Corrupted Ashbringer is beyond cleansing and that a new one would need to be made by Mograine's other son which is probably David Wayne in Terokkar

I think this could be blizzard trying to throw ret pallys a bone. The slow speed/high damage per hit works perfectly with crusader strike(instant strike that causes weapon damage plus 40% of your Holy spell damage) and also works great with Seal of Command(chance to deal additional Holy damage equal to 70% of normal weapon damage)

I'm definitely NOT saying this is an "only this class or that class weapon." Anybody can hit hard with this thing. If you're in a group and this drops, it's really up to them who gets it isn't it?

I would just hate to run into a ret pally with this equipped, insane burst damage - Swing/crusader strike/judge SoC/ and maybe hammer of wrath 1 sec later if you're under 20% by then.

I'd honestly give this to a ret pally or an enhancement shaman (if there are any of either in the raid, which is very unlikely). mainly because stormheralds proc makes it a better pvp weapon for a mace spec warrior , however since there will HIGHLY unlikley be any ret pallies or enhancement shaman in the raid (lets be honest how many raiding guilds have either) then i'd give it to a warrior who DOESNT have stormherald.

OK ye unenlightened fellows, read on for a real education. Just because Reta Paladins don't have the highest damage in the raid it doesn't mean they are useless. In 10 man raids, a good Reta Paladin can expect to end 2nd or 3rd in dps, which we realize isn't first place, but since we are not first most people automatically think the class therefore must be useless since another DPS class can out DPS them.

The logical flaw comes when you think, because a Reta Paladin can be out DPSed by a warlock, I can therefore replace his “useless” arse with yet another warlock and have a better raid group.

This is very wrong since Reta Paladins (and enhancement shammys) actually give something useful to a raid that yet another warlock wouldn't. It would be a great waste for your raid if you decided to take another warlock instead of a Reta Paladin, and here's why.

-- Best Wipe Protection Offered by any class
Divine Intervention, once and hour save-a-raid, enough said.
Blessing of Protection for the overzealous DPS which can save your raid either a death if not a wipe, usable once every 5 minutes for 10 seconds of zero agro.
Lay on Hands, gives the tank nearly 100% health once per hour, so since when it another triad of these abilities not worth the spot?

-- Another Great Buff for the entire party
The addition of another paladin blessing, so that your Holy Paladin can use Blessing of Light, your other Holy Paladin can use Blessing of Salvation, and your Reta Paladin can buff Blessing of Might/Wisdom. Also, Blessing of Sanctuary is the ultimate if someone is being crowd controlled, as it will automatically break most any CC. Unless you have more than three paladins, another one is always useful as a blessing giver, among the various other uses.

-- Another Great Aura for the entire party
The addition of yet another aura can be very useful, even with three or more paladins in a raid. One Holy Paladin obviously should have Concentration Aura on. Situations involving a Prot Paladin Tank, it brings a Reta Paladin into another amazing use to a group, while even if there isn’t a Prot Paladin in the group the Reta Paladin will have Devotion Aura, either +861 or +1205 armor depending on Reta spec, or 39 holy damage for anyone taking damage, including a warrior tank or druid, it might not seem like much but over many hits it adds up. Also, upon an encounter with a magic wielding boss it may become necessary or beneficial for one of the paladins to change to Shadow/Frost/Fire Resistance Aura/i], so there can theoretically be at least 5 active and useful paladin auras on that give potentially very good buffs to the entire raid. I am not suggestion to have 5 paladins, but certainly that one Reta Paladin is usually quite useful.

-- 2% overall Damage for any damaging attack by any raid member
In addition, and most often, a Reta Paladin’s Sanctity Aura gives +2% damage for any attack, on bosses, mobs, everything. A 2% overall damage buff can be huge when it comes to a 10 minute plus fight.

-- +3% Critical Strike (not +3 rating!)
His Sanctified Crusader gives the entire party +3% Critical Strike Chance on any damaging attack on the mob or boss.

-- Use in creating Super-Tank
The Reta Paladin can put +50% more effective Retribution Aura on that allows a tank to quickly soak up agro and is especially useful for tanking large numbers of mobs, once again that is 39 damage for every damaging attack the tank receives, and this holy damage per hit is increased by a large amount with the Blessing of Sanctuary, Redoubt, Holy Shield, and shield spikes, and all but the spike benefits towards the Prot Paladin’s 90% more agro for holy damage from Righteous Fury.

Not only this, but the Reta Paladin’s Sanctity Aura can increase a Prot Paladin’s agro by giving +2% damage overall in addition to 10% holy damage increase, and the +3% critical strike increase. And finally, his Judgment of the Crusader will increase the Tanks melee damage to that target by +218.5 holy damage, which in terms of agro is also increased by the Prot Paladin’s Righteous Fury.

So, I hope that for the enlightened individual who actually took the time to read this, now is better informed, and whenever there is a Protection Paladin, he would know it would be so very foolish to go without a good Reta Paladin, and for most raids a good Reta Paladin is more useful than just another Warlock or DPS spot.

Only two things are infinite, the universe and human stupidity, and I'm not sure about the former.

Ok let's face it...imagine this weapon with Dragonspine Trophy, Abacus of Violent Odds, Bloodlust, Bloodfury, Flurry, and Windfury on a 2h enhancement shaman. With it we enhancement shammys could finally kill healadins in BGs, an almost impossible task! THINK about that! lol. This is perfect for a Retribution Paladin or Enhancement Shaman. I wouldn't give this to a PvE warrior because he could do much better with an even slower, higher dps weapon, like that sword from Hyjal using Slam repetitively. For PvP though, this would make a great arms warrior wep as well. Major grats to those who have this pretty little meat-grinder tucked away, I hope to be seeing it as soon as I possibly can!

its for Shamans, Warriors, and Ret pallys, know why? not because you benefit more than others, its a little thing i like to call DKP, and because you can use it, if you're an enhancement shaman, and ofcourse (i have one too) DW is better for PVE, if u have more dkp, you win, end of story, no cry no @#$%s n giggles thats the end of the story. and you know what happends when u cry about loot?

I have this baby on AlphaWoW (blizzlike ... not fun server)... it dropped on my 9th kill of essence of anger and i was the lucky one to get it. I've tried many weapons for my pally, but i really love this one. My highest crit (full T6 retri with most items also for retri) is about 5k / hit in PvE, and imagine that in a duel like Repentance/AWrath/SoComm/CS/Stun/Judge/SoCrus/CS ... and ooops ... cloth & leather (full T6 = 8 to 10k hp) wearer is dead ... no more time to use Hammer of Wrath ... I could only say that you should stay away from a pally full T6 equipped with this mace :) Now i can fairly kill most classes in game with this gear, even ferral druid in bear form :D Fyio, my crit chance now is about 33% - gear only.

show me a arms warrior who can give +3% mele/ranged/spell crit for all of the dps in the whole raid and buff everyone in the whole raid
most good guilds will have 1 ret pally in there 25man raid,if you dont then your guild is most likely stuck in kara with your narrow minds
this will work very well in who evers has the most dkp end of story
me i prefer my feral druid cause theres no piss arse moaning about what weapons we get
