The quest item you are given has a time limit of two hours, if my memory is correct.

The towers are all located in the area SE of Honor Hold labeled on the map as Zeth'gor. Cords are:

1. Northern Tower (68,67)-- outside the encampment
2. Southern Tower (66,76)
3. Forge Tower (70,69)
4. Foothill Tower (70,71)

They are all tall wood structures.

If you're really impatient to get the blues, do like I did on my paladin. Stripped to the skin, bubbled up and ran in to place the Smoke Beacons then ran towards the next tower and die. Rince, repeat!

There is a bug where this item will disappear from your inventory and render the quest unfinishable. This was confirmed as a bug by a GM on 4/17/07.

You have to abandon and restart the quest =/

After doing this on my hunter when BC came out as soon as i got my mage to outland i ran over and did this quest, the chest will last quite a while and as mentioned above quite an easy quest

Just stand under the tower, and use the beacon. After the quest, the beacon will be still in your backpack, but it will dissapear after +- 20 minutes (depend how much time u have played that quest).

Try to get somebody to help, specially when you are inside the camp. I did the quest in 58 lvl with a friend also 58 lvl (both frost mages).

When you find first tower, just look around and try to see another. There are near themselves.

As a 58 rogue I completed this in no time with no deaths and not much fights only four as maximum if u follow my instructions:
When i went there there was about 3 orcs around each tower discluding the patrolling ones.
I sapped the toughest orc and stayed at the other side of the tower from one of the orcs, next I distracted one of the two orcs away from me and hit the last orc and killed him quick since he was a peon and i was a sub rogue which means high damage Ambush ( if you can't kill an orc in 10secs try pulling him away from the distracted one without pulling an orc from behind you.
Now all what you have to do is place the beacon and vanish.

Did this solo with my Prot. Spec. Warrior. Found it rather easy as you don't have to be under the tower as it says to use the beacon. I cleared 1 maybe 2 mobs from a corner of each tower and walked right up to the corner post and was able to drop the beacons. Much easier than trying to clear everything to use the beacon under the tower or the run nekkid Pali. trick. :) Just time it with the patrols and you will be fine. Hope this helps!

If You are a hunter just Dismiss your pet and run to a tower and feight death. Once you leave combat use the item and run to the other tower and do the same thing

lol i just waited for 1 hour to expire and went nutso, got it done with 20 mins left (uber, i know) the advice i have for Feral/Balance druids is to stealth near it, pick one off at a time, and burn it down

I did this two days ago (Sunday night) and turned in the quest! Last night, when I logged on, the Smoke Beacon was still in my pack, and remained there for the 3 + hours I played! Must be bugged, did not disappear after 2 hours!

i was stuck on where the northern tower was, even though i had passed it several time on the way into the camp and just dismissed it because it was outside. I didn'y realise that the barrel had a timer on it until i went to the last tower and it said it had 54 seconds left!

Solo'd this as a lvl 60 Rogue. No problems, just run up, sap one, kill the other nearest, and use the beacon, then vanish and run to the next tower. You can use the beacon in combat, and vanish. Worked a treat. But would have been a pain if I didn't know where the towers were from wowhead.

If you're a druid than of course you're lucky - this quest is incredibly easy for us!

Stealth in cat to under the towers and place the beacon.
Then shift to travel form and run run run away.

I didn't have to kill even 1 mob...

I wonder if this would work in a group? If so, other classes having problems should find a druid and group! And then stand back and let the druid do their stuff.

Save a little time and approach the southern tower from outside the camp. At 66,78 you can get over the fence with some careful jumping, and then you only have to kill the two mobs right by the tower instead of having to clear a path to it through the encampment.

Note that the Smoke Beacon does not have a "cast time," so if you're good at kiting or have enough armour to survive, feel free to run straight through and drop one, since you won't be interrupted.

Incredibly simple once I knew where the towers were.

Just place the beacon, vanish, go to the next one, wait, place, vanish...

Barely got a scratch, 8300 XP and a Jerkin of the Untamed Spirit is great!

Just don't make the same mistake that I did...

When you've marked the first three towers and the only one left is the southern tower, just walk around the village instead of fighting your way through ($%^&loads of adds).

When you've walked around the village, you can jump over the end of the wall - the last tower is almost in front of you then.

REAL easy quests sooed it on my lvl 58 rogue real easy died 3 times just stealth if you can get sprint ready maybe sap the peons and run like your buts on fire.

Quest info on this site says you can't pick it up till 60, but people are completing at 58. How high do you actually have to be to get this quest (assuming you can get to Hellfire before 58 if need to)?

At level 58 here is what I did.

Do 67,77 first. place smoke bomb then vanish immediately.
71, 71 second and sprint to the quest giver. They will take care of your mob train.
68,67 third. This time I ran away, used trinkets to absorb dmg and avoid stuns. Gouged when everytime I could to slow the mobs down. Again, head to quest giver for help.
68,67 last. This is the furthest from quest giver so your vanish cd is over. Vanish right after planting to escape combat.

Hope this at least helps other rogues.

solo'd with my lvl 58 hunter... sent my pet in to draw agro to it... used the smoke beacon while 2-3 dudes were battlin my pet - run away and feign death.

One flaw with this quest...if you get partway through and join an instance etc. you have to start over since there's no way to get a new smoke beacon.

The quest is marked as level 60 but every mob is level 61 or 62 with huge aggro radius. If you're not a rogue or hunter, you have a good chance of drawing 5 mobs at once even at level 60 and you end up running far out of the camp to lose aggro, basically forcing you to start over. I think this quest is balanced around characters with level 60 raiding gear, it was much easier with my Warlock at level 60 with Felheart than it is with my Draenei mage.

A bit frustrating and annoying.

I pulled this off solo with a 62 pally (no stealth), here's how:

Started on the outlying tower which abuts the mountain backdrop, north side. Went counter-clockwise from there. It took a couple extra minutes to sneak in and get started, but it's close to the Expedition camp starting point. You just have to take out a coupla guards and 58-59 hellboar. Get up behind the first tower and watch for movement patterns. Each tower except the one farthest south (inside the palisade) is visited by at least one warg rider every few minutes. Avoid them if you're solo.

Take out only the he orcs guarding your closest access point, which will be a leg of the tower. Be ready for peons to run, but the grunts never did. To activate the smoke you have to be right up alongside the tower, any distance will suppress your ability to activate the signal.

The 2nd tower is just across the path from the first, and was easier, but watch for passing warg and foot patrols. There's a peon that moves between what I'm calling the first and second towers. The third, facing west and outside the compound, was the hardest because 2 warg riders hovered closeby, and entered the tower perimeter frequently. I had to run from one of them once when he caught me just after I'd wasted a grunt. But he didn't chase far, I avoided hellboar, and finishing the job was easy as soon as he move away. The fourth tower was on the south side, but you have to sneak inside the palisade to get to it. That required taking out two grunts, then hopping the fence where it meets the hillside, and approaching the tower along the fenceline. Only one peon was close enough to require whacking (don't forget, they run so be ready).

Unless you're stealthed, I don't recommend trying to cross the inside of the compound. There are numerous guards, several shaman/minion teams, plus a floating green eye that appears to be a watchdog for each shaman. I didn't get close enough to draw the attention of any of these eyes, and I recommend you don't either. I don't know if they can see through stealth.

The bottom poster is right, there's no warrior reward at the end, but pick an item and just sell it. This was physically easy, but still nerve-wracking.

i wasted alot of time on finding them and when i did it was to late (time limited quest, just leave it and take it agien) they are in theZeth'gor camp (68,74) just go under the wooden towers and use the item u get from the npc.

I think it's worth posting again as an emphasis - this quest has a time limit after which your smoke beacon disappears from your bag. If you join a party that is doing it where someone has smoke beacon, you can complete any unmarked towers by the party doing it. Otherwise, you have to abandon and start over. Not sure what the time limit is, but it may be 2 hours.

One thing to note, the barrel/smoke beacon lasts for two hours, after that vanishes. May explain the earlier comment that you to restart if you go into an instance, likely it's just that they spent to long there. It Does exsplain why I did the tower outside yesterday and then logged off, but the barrel is gone today.

It's instant-cast. Just get under the tower and run away. You don't have to fight the mobs around the towers.

Solo'ed this at lvl 58. Took 10 minutes.

Did this on my 58 lock. The coords posted are correct. This was fairly easy for me, just sent in voidwalker to draw aggro, set the beacon then sac'd demon and ran like mad. Went around back and jumped the wall as a previous post stated for the last tower.

Did it in my first half hour in Hellfire.
Go east from Honor Hold a short distance and you'll find the camp. Talk to the wing commander. Zeth'Gor is within sight of the camp. Just use the item under each tower and you're done.
Only problem was constant adds as the place is crawling with mobs.
But they drop lots of netherweave cloth and money!

I completed this quest on my 58 rogue (by myself) having only needed to sap one person, but ended up vanishing cause i walked into someone by accident.

Very simple, stealth in. And stand behind the tower poles. If you're not in line of sight you won't aggro anything. Lay the smoke beacon, re-stealth, not vanish, just standard stealth as in you didn't even enter combat. Go to the next tower and repeat. At the Foothill tower(i think it was that one) i needed to sap one cause i would have been in line of sight, and then moved as far away as possible so i wouldn't still be put in combat with him when i left stealth but still remained out of line of sight of the other 2 mobs. Used the beacon re-stealth and went on. As i said i did accidentally walk into a mob i didn't see while i was stealth and needed to vanish out of it, but done right all that would need to be done is to sap one person if that and the quest was complete!

I can't light the stupid torches. Everytime I try it says missing reagent:demonic runestones. I need 4 of them. Where do I get them? I have checked my quest log and there are no quests to pick up any of these. Someone please help.

One bit of advice for people make sure your right ontop of the legs of the tower otherwise your smoke beacon will not activate. Did it solo on my 58 BM hunter tis reasonably straightforward just watch out for the woldf riders going about co-ords mentioned earlier are pretty much spot on but you can't miss the towers.

To complete this quest you need to mark Zeth'Gor towers with Smoke Beacon.

Make your way to the west and enter Zeth'Gor fel orc camp. To mark a tower, stand under and use Smoke Beacon.

WARNING --- Smoke Beacon only exists for 2 hours (real time), if you log out for a long time you could abandon the quest and pick it up once more.

Forge Tower is the closest one to the spot you have entered Zeth'Gor from.
Foothill Tower is just to the south, on a small hill, you barely miss it.
Northern Tower can be found outside the camp, to the south.
Southern Tower is inside the camp, at the southwestern part.

If you are using the add on Questie, it does not accurately count one of the towers as completed. I think it was the Forge tower. The quest showed as complete in my quest log, but Questie would not update on this quest. Hopefully they fix it soon.

It's time to strike Zeth'Gor from the air! Our gryphon riders are ready for a sortie, <name>. But they need someone on the ground to direct their fire. Are you ready for a covert mission?

Take these smoke beacons into Zeth'Gor, the Bleeding Hollow stronghold to the west. They have four guard towers: one near their northern wall, one near their southern wall, one near their forge and another nestled in their foothills. Place a beacon underneath each of the towers and we'll fly in and bomb them!
