With a 1.2 attack speed this common cat is as good as the RAKE.

I'm currently a LvL 42 NE hunter on Steamwheedle Cartel. I originally wanted to capture a Broken Tooth at LvL 37 , so my plans were to substitute a Swamp Jag for it at 36 because I had no idea how long it would take me to capture BT after reading all the forums and posts on him and I needed a filler.

I caught my Swamp Jag at LvL 36 in Swamp of Sorrows after going through the medley of hiding from passing Horde PVP NPC's , a LOT of spiders , whelps and Horde Players. I originally thought this cat was just going to be a temporary slot before I got my BT , but I think a LOT differently now. I am BM / Marks Spec with a good majority in BM right now and everything else going into Marks.

This cat simply PWNS. I have never been able to take a mob off of him and he hits 1.2 ATTK SPD and for a pretty descent amount of damage. He is incredible in PVE and descent in PVP as well. He looks like a Snow Leopard except This bad boy is yellow with Black spots , kind of looks like a cheetah. I named him "Voodoo" because of his markins on his face and this cat has NEVER let me down in a fight and only continues to grow stronger. He has easily handled 3 mobs at once while I sat back and turned them into pincushions with my arrows.

I did eventually get Broken Tooth (stabling Voodoo not letting him go . BT is an AWESOME PVP pet he truly is , But even with the BM spec into him Broken Tooth is crap in PVE. He can not hold aggro for very long if I use an arcane shot or anything above a serpent sting...BT's whole make-up is he hits for very low damage OFTEN. A caster class, even a Shaman has an almost impossible time handling him and they are forced to go melee or die. BT can not hold up to or fight any other class cat same lvl in the game...his use in interruption and cats don't cast...BT gets his butt handed to him often by other same lvl cats but once again Players have a hard time with him.

I really think this may be one of the greatest pets in the game. He may not be as pretty as King B , He may not hit as fast as BT , but he is right in the middle and thats where it counts because he is simply incredible at everything. I would definitely recommend a hunter try out a Swamp Jag. They're not Rare or Elite , just got to dodge a few mobs and some Horde if you're an Ally , so getting one is just a matter of being LvL 36. I am certain you won't be dissappointed. ^^

lol .. i tamed one lvl 36 swamp jag ... 2.0 attk speed after tameing .. while i was tameing it seemed like he had 1.0 atk speed wtf is this $%^& .. hes no better then any other cat

The pet speeds were 'normalized' a few patches ago. All pets have the same nerfed speed. I have to check on it but I think that if you have a decent pet, then bestial swifness is a wasted talent. Anyway, King B has the bonus of 'Cobra Strike' (hits a lot more often for slightly less damage) and it seems the only pet to have escaped the clutches of the nerf police at Bliz. The funny thing is, I don't think that the damage is actually reduced from cobra strike. King B almost never loses aggro and he is a 4 legged food processor, he slices and dices with the best of them. Get Prowl and Dash maxed and Nelfs can ambush horde while sheperding twinks.

FYI, I specced Marks to trueshot, then put almost all else in BM (bumped my range under survival).

At 66, My good friend and I had several duels to compare MM (her) to my MM/BM. I consistantly won with about 5%+ health thanks to King B.
I get the bonus mutual healing from spirit bond and the extra damage from all the BM stuff especially when Kill Command procs (Frequently).
Running a twink through lower horde? set him loose in psycho mode, drop a few multis and vollys down and watch the corpses fly.
This helps a lot in PVP when they stun or immobilize you, they can't get away from the big white killing machine (you'd think that his fur would get bloody).

For Any interested in taming a warp stalker or Warp hunter;
These are a very weak pet. Great for surprise in battlegrounds since they basically blink to the target, it can really startle you. But the low armour and the weak damage make them pretty useless in PVE.
The hunter is a bit harder to find but not by much. They are a little better but still pretty useless for PVE. When I tamed a warp hunter, he became a warp stalker by name but without the mana bar, (Stalker=mana using attack, Hunter=melee).
I had to tame another becuase I thought i had made a mistake.
I will try the better one at 68 when I get there but I have no great hopes for it.

Does anybody have the stats fort this Swamp Jaguar? I'm particularly interested in the attack speed, because to me it looks faster than the usual 2.0, but what is it when tamed?

When tamed his attack speed is 1.20

I have done my best to provide Map Mouseovers for each and every beast, wherever possible!
Unfortunately some do not yet have maps, but these will automatically be added to this post when they're added to the NPC's page.

Increases movement speed by 40%/60%/80% for 15 seconds.
Can be learned by: Boar, Cat, Hyena, Tallstrider, Wolf.

Loot Tables are way off on Classic. 50 kills, only 6 of them had any loot. It was perfect grinding spot on Vanilla, now it's not worth it.
