The Scryers get a Direct damage proc that does 333-367 Arcane damage and it is able to crit.

The proc is not affected by your +damage, however the proc is affected by your spell hit and spell crit values.

Seems to proc off of mostly anything. I have had it proc from creating a bolt of netherweave cloth as well as from moving from area to area (moving back and forth on a road between Isle of Quel and Sun's Reach Harbor). Procs a ton.

So let me see. You wrote that:

In those 6 minutes i had 7 procs, 4 of them were hits and the other 3 were crits. Maximum crit I had was 619 dmg and average 592. The hits were average of 400 and max 410.

So your average hit value was (4*592+3*400)/7 = 510 damage.
And your average proc rate was 7 / (6*60) = 0.01666 procs / second

So you got procs * hit_value = +8.5 damage / second from the proc

Giving a total bonus damage of 37 + 8.5 = 45.5 for this necklace.

As a mage, this is about the damage I get from Vindicator's Pendant of Conquest, but with worse stats.

That's disappointing. But then, the item is only level 115.

Note that the scryer proc currently has a 50,000 yard range. ie you can pull just about anything you can /target- a priest could mind vision their way up to Prince in Karazhan from the front door, put the necklace on, spam mind vision until it procced and it would pull him.

I seem to recall hearing about an old world epic that could do the same thing before they nerfed it.

I just picked this up today, and it's pretty nifty. Whoever mentioned that it has about a 40 second hidden cooldown is correct, it's about that.

It procs often after that 40 seconds, and isn't limited to offensive spells! I've casted Ice Barrier, and had the necklace proc, so keep that in mind.

Edit: See below posts before reading this, as this post is no longer a concern. As such, I'm leaving it as it was before for nostalgia.

WARNING:
While this necklace is great to replace your current neckpiece, Scryers are dangerous as hell.

Not "dangerous" as in you can kill quickly with it, dangerous as in this necklace WILL kill you if you aren't carefull.

This necklace procs off just about everything. It can proc off:

Standard spell hits
Initial channeled spell casts
Tics in between certain channeled spells (a.k.a. Arcane Missiles, Mind Flay, etc.)
Casting a CC (Thus breaking the CC immediatly afterwards)
Casting a buff
Receiveing a buff (Unsure of this, I checked my combat log, and it's procced off of auras before, but never actual buffs)
Drinking/Eating (It will make you stand up immediatly if you aren't targeting anything)
Using certain items (further testing needed on this, if it gives you a buff, it could be because you received a buff, if it doesn't, it might not proc it)

This list goes on and on.

Now, while this may seem funny sometimes, it can get annoying as hell. here's a personal example:

I'm in BT at the far end of the area Supremus is in, almost all the trash is still there. I target Supremus because I wanted to see him, and my mana was low, so I used a biscuit. I sit down, drink 1 tick, stand right back up, and pull him with an arcane bolt. That may seem funny as hell, but it's not so funny when 25 people die because you decided to drink while looking at an enemy.

These types of things can happen on trash mobs too. you're rebuffing or drinking in between pulls, and you pull by accident due to the necklace.

Now, there are some fun things you can do, but I highly recommend that you unequip anything with a durability cost on it when you try this.
You can enter an instance, do /target on bosses till you find one you can target, and then just spam a low mana using buff till this necklace procs, and 1 of 3 things will happen. the boss will come at you and reset, it will come at you and kill you, or it will port you to itself and kill you.

Good bosses to see the port effect:
The Curator in Kara (Doing this in a full group will end up having you ported up, killed, a random person ported up, and killed, and over and over till everyone's dead. yes, I found this out by experience...)
Kalecgos in Sunwell Plateau
Mother Shahraz in Black Temple

Experiment and you'll find some more.

Just remember, the bolt has a 50,000 yard range with no issues on LoS, so have your fun, just don't get people killed because of it.

Edit 2: Through some further testing, I have found that if you're not flagged, attacking flagged mobs/horde/alliance will not flag if when this procs (normal spells and attacks will though, so do be careful) this is almost certain to be fixed, so have your fun with it right now.

I just tested this with my moonkin, casting rank1 " Healing Touch " I have the aldor ver of the DPS caster item. It seemed to proc every 40-45 seconds, this was casting non-stop. Did it about 10 times.

Not sure how this turns out into DPS.

Haha this trinket is hilarious. I've been using it to scare people all day. I targetted the third boss in Magister's Terrace while my party was buffing up, and started furiously casting MotW on myself until the boss pulled. Luckily, there's barriers in the way, so she only emotes and glares at you for 30 seconds before letting you out of combat.

I've been testing other things, such as I was unable to get this to proc on someone during a duel while being out of LoS. I only gave it 30 or so casts, but the other person got bored and fled combat before I got a proc.

I would like to test if this can be used to pull that mob on the way to the Eagle boss in Zul'aman in order to make him stop summoning stuff. It would, of course, pull all the mobs on the way... but that might be managable. Either way, this would be an exploit so not recommended as an actual strategy.

So, while doing some happy nuking with Dr. Boom ... i noticed:

This necklace will proc ... from doing nothing at all! I just stood there looking at him, and it fired arcane bolts at him. Just a little warning so you don't pull <whatever boss your guild is working on> while simply looking at him/her/it. To repeat this: having ANYTHING <red name here> targeted fires an arcane bolt at the unsuspecting victim.

Not sure if the same applies to <yellow name here> (e.g. flagged players, "neutral" mobs, etc.) but somebody else can figure that one out.

This also happens when you are sitting, /sleep, etc., even while flying on your mount ... as long there is LoS to your target.

I tried this several times, i stood on a ledge, out of aggro range of anything close by, not in combat and out of nowhere *zap*. Off to some BGs to annoy drinking casters with this, gogo farsight ;)

Other random info: the free bolt will trigger other on cast / on crit effects (in my case, i had the Sextant of Unstable Currents equipped).

Creative minds will find many uses for the current behavior of this necklace. One wonders how long it would take to solo Doomwalker like this ... extensive testing (~1h of afk bolting) showed amazing 6.1 DPS ;)

Edit: oh yeah, this thing procs every 40 to 50 seconds according to my parsed combatlog

Apparently, as a mage exalted with the Scryers, Blizzard did not intend for us to use it. Only in heroic Magister's Terrace last night, I broke my own polymorph no less than 4 times, since the polymorph spell triggered the proc. If Blizzard developers would have thought about this even once, they would have changed the proc to something like "your harmful spells" or "your damaging spells". Instead, we won't be able to use this trinket as it is now.

I personally think that the Loop is still the better one given the haste on it, yet I'm not good at math, and when I see that it's quite good for some classes, it made me wonder...

Interesting neck. After hearing about the unlimited range of the proc (and its ignoring LOS) I decided for a giggle to see what happened if I used this on Kalecgos from the entrance.

Sure enough it hit him, i got ported and promptly smeared.

Totally an exploit but an enterprising guild could completely bypass the trash clear with this.

Yes, this neck procs off of buffs and can easily accidently pull bosses, i put together this video to demonstrate it. Its a mixture of fun and terror.

Aldor Boomkin here.

Hit exalted yesterday, picked this up to try it out, and went to do my other dailies...

It procced off the Booterang! Guess I showed that peon who's boss.

Although later on, while doing the Netherwing Relics daily, at one point in time this, Idol of the Unseen Moon, and Shiffar's Nexus Horn ALL procced at once. With my current gear (which is Kara/Badge level) I think my +dmg got up to about 1500 or more for those 10 seconds. Needless to say that Netherwing Transporter never saw it coming.

For Aldor DPS casters I would highly recommend this neckpiece unless you have something vastly better already.

The Scryer proc seems to have been hotfixed. I casted Healing Wave on myself for 5 minutes while having a Hellfire Channeler targetted in Magtheridon's Lair, hoping to freak out my guild... but no Arcane Bolt ever happened.

I tried it out right after hitting exalted and it doesnt seem to procc that often for me on buffs, tried spamming frost armor for 5 minutes without a single procc.

But what i really found out was 2 things:
1. It can procc from a molten armor procc.
2. It does make lightning capacitor procc if it critts.

After reading all of the previous posts, I decided that my situation would be optimal for this neck item.
I understand now the conflicts with CC, pulling unwanted mobs and such. However I don't see this being a problem for me.

Being a warlock, my demon casts any crowd control I need. The neck item will not proc on a spell your demon casts.

I am exalted Scryer. I have an unbuffed shadowbolt crit chance of 30%. So if this neck item directly relates to that % than that makes me excited. It seems that the more crit chance you have, the more total dps you will see from this item.

Then there is the issue of spec. Can you imagine a better spec for this neck item than DS/SnF? rawr hah!

Apparently, the "fix" has caused it to no longer proc on channeled spells or DOTs. As a shadow priest, 75% of my casts are channeled spells or DOTs. This is extremely disappointing to me.

there must be a hidden cooldown - i've killed dr boom and the proc rate seems VERY low.

this sucks for scryers. spamming searing pain and it proced after more than 20 casts! :/

This is really sad tbh. Two pages of comments and still no solid theory crafting as to the DPS worth of this neck. I've come across figures from 8 to 20dps added.
For scryer version obviously crit affects it while spelldamage doesnt. Also, it now proc's only on direct damage spells. Looking around i've come across the same internal cd of 45sec. If it's 10-15% proc chance lets take a proc every 60sec as an average, damage at 350. 10minute fight.
10% crit chance adds 6dps.
20% =7dps.
30%=7.6
40%=8.2
50%=8.75

I'd really appreciate someone going over this as i'm horrible at math. But in my book, this neck just fails with current proc's on direct damage spells.

Well I tested it out for a while with Searing Pain and never got it to proc at all. Didn't test for that long, just 10-15 clefthoof. But I wouldn't suggest getting it "just" for proc. The spell damage is decent for as easy as it is to get but proc not worth it.

So its been confirmed that this no longer procs off the casting of dots or channelled spells? If true this a total shame for shadow priests. It definitely shouldn't proc off of ticks, but the spells DO cause damage so the casting of them should have a chance to proc this pretty awesome necklace.

EDIT: Interesting thing I noticed in SSC last night while doing Lurker. Pendant would trigger when I took damage from the water. This was actually really nice because there was another Shadow priest in my group, so with dual VE's up I could just sit in the water, remain at full health and get extra pendant procs.

2nd edit: It also procced off getting shocked while doing the Relic's Emanation quest from Ogri'la.

For example, will it still pull Shade of Aran from the entry hallway if i've got him targeted while making a mage table? As a scryer- this neckpiece + Timbal's Focusing Crystal = shadow and arcane bolts flying everywhere, both receiving a boost from Curse of Shadow.

It procs only on "spells and abilities which cause damage", but it's not only the ones that you cast. If you have passive abilities or buffs that do it, these can also proc the necklace.

I have a Scryer shockadin that I use this necklace on when soloing. Interestingly, it seems to proc off of two things I hadn't expected: Eye for an Eye procs and melee swings while Seal of Righteousness is active. While unconfirmed, I theorize based on this that it may also proc off Retribution Aura (or the Thorns buff, or similar effects, as long as they're "magical")

Note that I didn't even HAVE the necklace until the fix that stopped it from proccing on any spell at all, so apparently these fall under what Blizzard calls "damage spell effects."

Oh, and the Eye for an Eye procs also proved another point that may have been debated: it procs against the target of the spell that trigger it, not whoever you're currently targeting. I was riding around the Greengill Coast with an enemy player targeted, and when one of the sirens critted a frostbolt against me, it was hit with both Eye for an Eye and Arcane Bolt, even while I had the player targeted.

Edit: Since my shockadin is a blood elf, does anyone know if Mana Tap counts as dealing damage for the purposes of the Scryer proc?

If anyone is interested in experience-based rather than theory-based information, I have been using this item in raids and then checking to see how much of my total damage the proc contributed.

I usually do around 1100 dps and the proc invariably contributes 0.7 - 0.9% of my total dps.

That works out to ~ 9 dps.

Just noticed today that the Scryer proc CAN kick in from damage from effects such as Molten Shield. Which if you're a Scryer Mage that uses this, whenever some hits you, not only do they take the fire damage, but they have a chance to get smacked by a 300-400 Arcane bolt. Not the greatest thing ever, but every little bit helps.

I have noticed on my aldor warlock that this neck DOESN'T seem to proc from dot and channeled spells anymore... i sat there for 30mins grinding using ONLY siphon life, corruption, coa and life drain not 1 proc. 1st sb i cast it proced. confirm?

This necklace makes me want to go Aldor on my warlock, since the Scryer proc is completely useless.
No damage scale, no hit scale, has crit scale, but it'll crit for about 300 on bosses, oh wow..
While the Aldor proc is pretty much a free spell damage trinket with 45 second cooldown.
Easily far better for any spell caster to get Aldor just for this.

I'm Scryers and I had this neck piece proc during arcane missiles (a channeled spell). It procced 4 times during that one channel of Arcane Missiles during a fight against a rogue who was jumping around me in circles. It took that rogue down fast!

I thought I had had a lag spike until I read the combat log.

it looks like in the upcoming patch (2.4.3) this can be triggered by the periodic damage from DOTs. as an affliction warlock I have decided that there is a god. while before the proc was okay and happened occasionally, with the inclusion of DOTs to its arsenal it is going to kick ass. perhaps i am wrong but it seems that this makes it a far more worthy necklace for an affliction lock.

This is a big deal for all casters with DoTs (esp. locks, spriests, mages), and hopefully its damage contribution will scale (relative to the previous proc rate on direct damage) with the overall percentage of DoT damage.

The question now is what the hidden cooldown looks like, because that will be a damage-limiting factor.

I read on another site that the procs were something along the lines of +80 spell damage for 10seconds Aldor, and an instant damage blast of 400 or so, unaffected by personal spell power Scryer.

Dunno if this is acurate, just posting here so people know what I read.

For Scryer the proc is very hard to notice, since the only effect is a blue aura around your hands as it casts your invisible arcane spell. It also procs at a relatively unimpressive rate.

For me at 495dps, arcane bolt accounted for 1.7% of my damage. Therefore you could say that arcane bolt = +8.4dps. To get the same effect spaming starfire you would need +25 spell damage.

Better than a kick in the pants.

The Aldor process grants +120 spell damage for 10 seconds. The Scryer process fires an Arcane Bolt that causes 333 to 367 of instant Arcane Damage.

The Scryer process can trigger while buffing, which can cause some tense conversations at the start of boss fights.

got this yesterday, LOVING IT! Proc rate is insane, the aldor 120+ spd for 10secs.
feels like it procs once every 10-20secs..just sick
procs even when i sit down to eat and drink, which makes me stand up hah =)
