This is a perfectly itemised Paladin Tank weapon. Spelldamage, perfect weapon speed to take full benifit of Reckoning, and defensive stats witha nice chunk of stamina

To state the bleeding obvious, this is a Pally tanking sword. As a tank, you want to become uncrushable, have 490 def, and get as much stam and avoidance as possible.

Yes, dodge rating would have been nicer. However, this is a decent upgrade over the Continuum Blade (https://www.wowhead.com/tbc/item=29185), which is the current flagship Paladin tank weapon.

Why? Because that 11 block rating gives you 1.4% mitigation, which is 1.4% you don't need to find elsewhere, which leaves you free to work more on your stamina or avoidance.

I was planning on grabbing the Crest of the Sha'tar (https://www.wowhead.com/tbc/item=29176) with Enchant Shield - Shield Block (https://www.wowhead.com/tbc/item=22540), and putting two Solid Star of Elune's in it. Ideally it'd be the +18 stam enchant (https://www.wowhead.com/tbc/spell=34009), but I was really going to be pushing to hit around 100% mitigation (flask, kings, MotW would push me up that last bit), and completely maxing my stam in everything else.

However, with this blade, it gives me the freedom to go with the +18 stam to shield instead, which means by using this blade and that enchant, I'll lose 3 int, 4 block rating, 8 spell hit, but I'll gain a huge +18 stamina.

I'll take the block rating on this. Any day.

If it's supposed to be some questline-thingy, doesn't it then sound a little wrong?

Nevertheless, a great weapon for paladin tanks, though it's not the biggest upgrade from Continuum Blade.

It's not really a questline, you pick up a depleted sword from one of the creatures in the Blade's Edge plateaus. Must have been a rare drop because nobody else had even heard of it.
All you need to do to turn it into the crystalforged sword is get 50 crystals and use it. Now to find a paladin :-)

I got mine 2 days ago, I absolutely love it. The extra 1.4% block is awesome. Im am going to be able to switch my Adamantine Figurine https://www.wowhead.com/tbc/item=27891 for Commander's Badge https://www.wowhead.com/tbc/item=32864 because of this baby. Gaining a mind blowing 45 stam as a side bonus while maintaining uncrushable status.

Got this sword last night on my pally, was so lucky to pick up the Depleted Sword (https://www.wowhead.com/tbc/item=32674) of the Auction House for 40g.
Farming the shards doesnt take to long.
It really looks like a sword and nothing else.

You all keep referring to 490 def as "uncrushable"
I think you mean "crit immune"
A critical strike in melee is ~200% of normal melee damage.
A crushing blow in melee is ~175% of normal melee damage.
Therefore the actual use of 490 defense as "crit immune" is much more useful than this "uncrushable" status you refer to.

it's pretty much the same thing for all intents and purposes.

if you dodge parry or are missed, you by definition aren't crit or crushed.
if you block, it can be niether a crit NOR a crush.

therefore: if all attacks made against you falls into either of those two categories, you are both uncrittable and uncrushable. THAT is the goal of tanks everywhere, be they paladin druid or warrior. druid has no reactive skills to pump up their combat table, so instead they rely on insanely high hp and armor to soak the extra damage. but warriors use Shield Block and Paladins use Holy Shield to artificially pump their defensives.

the goal of 490 def for warriors and paladins is for if you are caught without Holy Shield/Shield Block up or get stunned. in either case, just like any other tank, you are at your most vulnerable as you cannot dodge block or parry then. (druid tanks want 490 simply cause they have no artificial pumps)

As most here have said, this is by far one of the best tankadin weps out there atm. Right now, there are about 3 tankadin weps out there. This being the "best" early weapon for up and coming tankadins trying to get to UC status. Next being the Continuum Blade. And finally, Mana Wrath from Mech. Sadly, if you want to go by looks, Mana Wrath wins hands down. After that, would be Continuum Blade followed by this wep. Why this weapon looks so cruddy is beyond me. Doesn't even have a glow to start with. Come on lol. I hope the graphic will be changed eventually to look like something that CAN hurt a boss....like the Sun Eater. XD Anyway, if you can get this, get it. Best there is till something better comes out. Once your gear goes up, go for Continuum or Wrath. :)

This is the best pre-raid Protection Paladin wep, due to high stam and spell damage and mitigation, and also easiest to obtain.

I had this weapon drop for me after killing a Relic Guardian for those Apexis Crystals. At the time, I had the Gavel of Unearthed Secrets and thought this would have been a huge downgrade. I was wrong. In most cases, the Gavel doesn't swing fast enough. The friend that won the roll put it on AH for 100g and it was gone immediately. I had been looking for one of these for a while and finally bought one off of AH the other day. Price=120g. I realized that I generated such an insane amount of threat anyways, that I put the Battlemaster enchant on this. Amazing combo. I gain back mana and health a lot faster now too with reckoning. .9sec swings basically. If you are lucky enough, try it with an enhancement shaman too. :)

This is also not a bad a weapon for a newly 70 warlock quickly upgrading gear from the AH b/f getting into instances or the lvl 70 bgs. 30 Stam + 121 Spell Dmg make it one of the best relatively-easy-to-get (AH) weapons around. Compare to the Blade of Wizardry which goes for roughly 8x the cost for only 40 more dmg and 30 less stam (and whose occasional ~17% cast speed increase doesn't feel like much, unlike the Mystical Skyfire Diamond's 50%). Add an off-hand like Draenei Crystal Rod of the Sorcerer or Tuurik Torch of the Sorcerer, gear up in the regular Netherweave set and of the Sorcerer gear, and put on all the Clefthoof armor kits and +stam gear enchants you can find, and you can break 10,000 hp and 800 +dmg without setting foot into an instance, bg, or arena (as Demo, at least).

This weapon is unlike the crystalforged war axe created using a depleted sword with 50 apexis shards. The crystalforged war axe is a random world drop, so do not get frustrated when you see it on ah day after day with no crystalforged sword there (like me).

Defently needed for any protadin. Becuse of the stats, block rating and spell dmg. No need to take The Sun Eater (https://www.wowhead.com/tbc/item=29362) or any kinda of defense wep when you got this. Either enchant it with 40+ spell dmg, icy chill or 30+ Intellect and you can got a perfect tanking wep

this gives the same amount of stam, the same amount of spell damage, you lose the spell hit but you gain shield block AND intel. I believe this is far superior to the Continuum Blade

Just an FYI: It drops as a rare sword called "Depleted Sword" (hence the reason to activate it with the shards)

I found it in Blade's Edge (obviously). Dropped off of one of those engineer guys.

This is a good, kinda farmable weapon. If you don't have a decent one-hand, doesn't raid and only PvP, get it.

I wouldn't mind equipping this to a Mage or Warlock even, though the stam should be nice for the 'lock.

As far as usefullness for a paladin is concerned this blade is EXACTLY like the continuum blade PLUS it has 1.4% to block, so if you're struggling to get uncrushable or otherwise want to replace block on other items for dodge etc then this sword is definately good to go for.

Pardon me, but I don't think you mingle among us as a fellow paladin tank.

Unlike Warriors, our white damage hits (where the many spell damage swords are notably low) is a very tiny portion of our threat, yes, we do get 100% threat for those 100 damage hits every 1.8 seconds, but that is not where our power lies.

The spell damage which enhances all of our Holy Damage spells, cranks out threat at a much higher multiplier, 190% at minimum. While the numbers on their own may seem small, this sword only increases its Seal of Righteousness damage by 12 and its Judgement by 50ish, these numbers not only build up over time, but stack with other sources of spell damage.

My apologizes to all that already know this and find this to be repetitive.

From my personal use of this sword, I like the extra mitigation. Spell Hit is very minor, it just happened to be on the Continuum Blade, but I have had very little issue with my taunt being resisted, its that Blizz needs to fix the bug where if you were recently suppressed, the taunt fails to work.

I like the actual solid sword graphic, I got tired of walking around with a short purple lightsaber, this makes my character look a little more imposing, a full length bastard sword with sparkles, a good foot (half inch) longer than the Continuum Blade. Every once of mitigation helps, and until I can justify losing 121 spell damage to equip The Suneater, this is the best of both worlds.

Nice, post, but the real tanking seal is Vengeance, and it's proc increases by about 65 more damage, a good 700 dmg a proc, with +90% threat = 1330 in threat!

Regardless of the patch, which will be vury niiice. Paladin tanks have already Main Tanked all the end-game content in the game.

It may take more work to be geared for such work, but all that means is you have a Tank who has worked harder to reach the ability to Tank endgame content...which also most likely means they are more skilled than their counterparts.

My other 70 is a Warlock, and I've participated in quite a bit endgame with my Lock as well, and very few Warriors are as good at tanking as I am on my Pally.

Don't worry about the troll, you can do it. I find it exceptionally fun gearing up.

This is a very good pally tanking sword. Actually the best for a while as there aren't alot of good tanking weapons for pallies. Most are geared for warriors. The mace you get at exalted with Lower City is a good tanking weapon for a Pally as well. (Gavel of Unearthed Secrets)

As for the argument about Pally tanks VS Warrior or Druid Tanks...IMO Pallies are the best tanks out there now. When my guild runs Kara, we do not use any type of CC through out the whole place because we have a Pally tank. Even on the Moroes fight, the pally just tanks all the adds and Moroes and we AOE them down. The only downfall to a pallie is they have no Interrupts for spell casting, but any DPS class will find it hard to pull aggro from a tanking pally. I have a t4/t5 epiced out lock and a Pally is the ONLY tank I can't pull aggro from. I have tried. I have yet to meet a warrior or Druid I could not pull aggro from either with Seed of Corruption or Searing Pain. PreBC, I would have gone for a warrior, but with BC, I will always pug a pally before any other tank. You will also find that a pally will do tremendous DPS while AOE tanking. Also the more targets hitting the pally, the more threat and DPS they do, so let him pull 10-12 trash mobs.
....wait for one consencrate(2-3secs) and then go all out as much as you want......
---just wanted to get that out there---

If you are a prot pally between levels 60-70 and you see this weapon on AH for a reasonable price, it is worth grabbing it and keeping it til level 70.

Guys, the different tanks have areas of specialty that make them each quite necessary for different parts of the game. Sure you might have the warrior tank akil'zon but you're an idiot if you don't have the pally tank the path up to him.

Complaining about one kind of tank being better than the other just means that you need to go outside.

I think some warrior tanks don't understand that we are different,not incompetent. I really have had enough of this kinda of attitude. I slap warrior tanks in many areas. Try to finish Heroic BOT in 57 mins and talk to me abt tanking. You need to think twice before talking about TANKADINS. I have been tanking for a long time. Even tanked Nightbane w/ my tankadin so I think you should start respecting others and stop being silly.

I know it requires a drop and maybe 50 crystals, but dont know what comes next.

I was doing the "Banishing Demons" daily in Ogri'la, killing the big 2-headed dogs (the name escapes me at the moment) and the depleted sword dropped off of one of them for me. Lucky, too, because it was the 15th of the 15 I needed to banish. :)

Call me ignorant, call me stupid, because i've never tanked mainden before, but i've come to realise from watching some videos of maiden, could you not pull her in a bubble, it would stop the initial silence and allow you to build your aggro by the time the bubble is over? i'm not saying anything to be stupid but i was just wondering if you could do that to stop some of the silence and build some agro

Personally grab the S1 arena mace now 25K honour 20 EOS tokens and you have similar stats and +199 spell dmg.

Take your spare change and buy the extra mitigation stat somewhere else.

For pally tanks starting out I dont think you can really go past the S1 arena mace

Any mob in BEM platues has a small chance to drop it but named mobs such as the dragons, have a much higher chance to drop it. If you want my advice do a month worth of dialies in BEM to get some crystals, then get some guildies and go around farming the dragons, and they also drop other depleded (spelling?) items that your guildies may be interested in. Hope this helps. And I would take this over Coontinum Blade (which I did when I got this).

EDIT: By the way if anybody cares while doing some dailies today the epic mail hand gear dropped off a trash mob, so if anybody is interested in buying it on Burning Steeps, contact Alad, Alliance.

The number of pure tankadins weapon is 1 - this sword.
Ofc you can choose later to replace with casters weapon or tank weapon without + spell dmg. That's all up to you!
And about the old argue - druid, paladins or warriors are the best tanks, that depends on the group you are in.
Paladins can tank many mobs at once, hard to get the aggro from someone, hard to gear up, need to take dmg so he could generate threat or if the mobs dosen't hit hard/ you got planty of block value. Hard to tank casters, cant interrupt their casts!
Warriors can tank 1 - 2 mobs and keep the aggro easy, got more health than paladins,able to regain the aggro easier, can tank casters with ease, interrupt their casts.
Druids can tank a groups of mobs like a paladin, even though there is a limit, suffer from crushing blows.
That wasnt so good - dosen't have much exp with warriors and druid, only from i see in raids!
